Rhythmic Gymnastics and Spine Health
Today physical training and sport are an integral part of everybody’s life. And it’s no wonder, as physical activity gives us energy, force and makes us healthier. And speaking about sport activities for children we cannot but take a healthy spine for consideration, because children have good and upright posture in result, especially if they go in for rhythmic gymnastics.
Just 1 of 150 people with moderate physical development has a healthy and flexible spine. Most of the people in our civilized society lead a sedentary life. Spinal curvature can be caused by the wrong nutrition and also by these facts that people still can’t walk, stand, sit in the correct way or they’re just devoid of any physical activity. This can be said both about adults and school children of the so called computer generation. We are the civilization of people leading the sedentary life, supporting rhythmic gymnastics teams sitting on the bleacher. We overeat but we’re still underfed because we consume lifeless, artificial food. Our muscled become limp because of the lack of physical exercises, and our tissues dwindle because of improper feeding.
Physical endurance mostly depends on the spine health. And endurance (the ability to stand super loads) is much more important than a brawn. Speaking about the spine in general, we can say that it’s a basis of a skeletal system. It puts the whole body into the right shape, layers of big and small muscles, ligaments of the belly and back, which hold the body and all the other parts in a correct position, are attached to the spine.
There are great amount of sports in the world. However, rhythmic gymnastics, perhaps, is the only sport which is recommended for girls without any limitations. From their early childhood girls can go in for this graceful activity. Soon the parents will see how beautiful, stronger and slimmer their girls become. Very quickly they acquire the upright posture, ability to move correctly and beautifully, to hear and understand the music, and to look great and healthy. But this is just the beginning. Girls dreaming about sport success can make their dreams come true.
However, great physical loads and constant exhausting training take their toll on the health. Spine flexibility is the most important quality of any rhythmic gymnast. Statistics says that 39% of the injuries requiring constant healing are the spine injuries, especially in a lumbar spine.
When such natural processes in a rhythmic gymnast’s organism as lactic acid in the muscles, exhaustion etc. appear, it’s important to solve these problems by a special rehabilitation treatment (massage, physiotherapy, sauna, swimming etc.).
Well, rhythmic gymnastics does make your spine better and upright, but don’t overload it. Take care about your spine health, and as soon as you have a back ache, tell about it to your coach immediately!
